To qualify for admission to Thomson-Hood Veterans Center a person must be:
- A veteran of the armed forces of the United States with anything other than a dishonorable discharge.
- A resident of Kentucky prior to submitting an application for admission.

The Cost
Veterans are charged a reasonable fee. Monthly charges are based on the veterans ability to pay which is determined by income and assets. Please contact Financial Services for more details.
Q: Can the spouse of a veteran be admitted to THVC?
A: You must be a veteran to qualify for admission to any Kentucky state veteran home.
Q: Can I be placed on the waiting list before I submit my application?
A: You must submit your application and all the required documentation before the admissions committee can consider you for admission. No one is placed on the waiting list until his or her application, records, etc. have been reviewed & approved by the committee.
Q: Does Medicare or Medicaid pay for my stay at THVC?
A: No, we are a self-pay facility. The amount you pay is based on your assets and income.
Q: If I am Service Connected, does this get me in faster or give me priority for admission to THVC?
A: No, all decisions for admission are based on nursing care needs and the urgency of each individuals' situation.
Q: How long does it take to get admitted to THVC?
A: There is no way to predict what your wait time may be as it is impossible to know when and/or how often beds will become available. We process the applications as quickly as possible and fill our beds as soon as they become available.
Q: Does THVC have a locked psychiatric unit?
A: No, we are not licensed for psychiatric nursing care.

Q: Do you accept women veterans at THVC?
A: Yes, any man or woman who is a veteran, is a resident of Kentucky, and requires nursing care, qualifies to be considered for admission.
Q: Do you have to be a resident of Kentucky to be considered for admission to THVC?
A: Yes, you must be a Kentucky resident, and provide proof of your residency, (ie. driver’s license, utility bills with your address on them, bank statements, etc. to verify your residency).
Q: Can I bring my car/truck to THVC?
A: Personal vehicles are not permitted at THVC.
Q: Does THVC have any Assisted Living apartments?
A: No, we are strictly a nursing home; only those veterans who require nursing care by a registered nurse, qualify to stay at THVC.
Q: Does THVC accept veterans who are on a ventilator?
A: No, we do not accept ventilator patients.
